Starting an Online Business Don’t Give Up Your Day Job

I’m writing this blog post entitled “Starting an Online Business – Don’t Give Up Your Day Job”, over the years I have heard many people talking about starting their own business, but is starting an online business right for you?

The Internet Has Opened Up A Whole Load Of New Opportunities

The Internet has opened up a whole load of new opportunities that I believe we need to take advantage of, I believe that the Internet is one of the best inventions ever and it has really changed the way we live and carry out our business and the way we shop. I find it absolutely amazing that we can find a product sitting in our own home, order the product and have the product delivered by the following day, or in some cases the same day. We can also plan a holiday online, only a few years ago we would have had to visit various travel agents and it really would have been a long process, but now we can read reviews, see photographs of hotels et cetera all from the comfort of our own home.

The Internet Has Improved Dramatically

I used to find the Internet so painfully slow, I started using a PC in 2001 and I had absolutely no knowledge of what to do whatsoever, I had never actually touched a computer mouse and I didn’t know a single thing about computers I didn’t have any interest either! A good friend suggested that I invested in a PC, so I had my first Dell desktop with a massive 20 GB of hard drive storage, I believe the cost of this setup was around £1100, I would get much more for my money today, it’s amazing how things change.

My first experiences with a computer were painful, I had the old-fashioned dial-up which was just painfully slow and almost unusable, your email could be sent providing that the attachment wasn’t too large. Thankfully broadband was soon available and in 2004 I had my first broadband connection, for me, this changed the face of the Internet, the Internet became usable and I immediately saw the power of the Internet and the potential that was available to every individual.

Literally, everything we need to know is now online

Literally, everything we need to know is now online, everyone is searching for something on Google, this has opened up huge opportunities for individuals to make money online, there are so many opportunities out there to make money online, the list is endless. I actually started to make money online in 2007, I monetised my website with Google AdSense and affiliate products, this worked extremely well for me as there was no expense for me to put these products up online, I just got paid when people clicked on the Google ads and when I sold a product.

Be Careful

As I mentioned in my previous paragraph there are a huge number of opportunities to make money online, but we have to be very careful who we listen to, it’s easy to be taken in by people especially if we want to quit our day job. In a previous post I mentioned about what not to do in 2019, you can read more about this if you click on this link. Unfortunately, there are many scams out there and we have to be very careful to listen to the right information, you may find it helpful to look at my Getting Started Guide you can see my number one recommendation for getting started online.

I learned the hard way, so I don’t want other people to make the same mistakes as I have, I have come a long way since I started researching Internet marketing back in 2004, I’m sure there are still many scams, but I do know how to pick out the good from the bad! The Internet is full of information, which is great, but how do we know that we are listening to the right people? This is why it is important to listen to the right people and learn from their mistakes, you can read my blog post about Internet marketing scams here.

Don’t Quit Your Day Job

Maybe I am one of the fortunate people that has been self-employed most of my working life, I actually used to work before I left school and I’m sure this helped to give me a good work ethic and taught me what was possible to achieve on my own. Back in 1983 when I went self-employed there was no Internet, or not that I was aware of, if there was it certainly wasn’t publicly used, how times have changed.

I literally started working for myself by starting off part-time, I believe this works well for an off-line business and an online business. I was fortunate as I still had money coming in while I was trying to build up my own business, another plus point that I had was that I started at 6 AM in the morning and finished 2:30 PM so this enabled me to do my own work in the afternoons and early evening, it is so important to have that regular money coming in as most of us have bills to pay every week.

When I was starting my first online business back in 2004, I took advantage of every available moment to learn about how to make money online, a lot of the things that I learnt were untrue and I had to try and pick out what was true and what wasn’t, that’s easier said than done when you’re working blind! It took me three years to get my first moneymaking website live, I’m very thankful that today we can literally put a website up in 30 seconds, you can see my article here about how to put a website up in 30 seconds! Obviously, there is more to just putting a website up that is only the beginning, but the great thing is once we have our website up we are ready to add content which then brings us traffic and then we can potentially monetise our website.

Take Things Step-By-Step

It’s amazing what can be achieved today with technology, most of us have smartphones, tablets and laptops which enables us to learn on the move and carry out tasks on the move. I often listen to podcasts and various training videos when I am working my off-line job, although I can’t see the screen it’s good to hear about the latest things in the Internet marketing world. I mentioned that we have smartphones and tablets, I certainly wouldn’t recommend just using these to start your business, I always prefer to work from a laptop or desktop PC as I find working from a tablet or phone very time consuming and not as productive as working from a PC.

If I was starting again today I would start with my number one recommendation which gives you step-by-step instructions to build an online business, I will also be with you to answer any questions that you may have and so will the rest of the community. By having a step-by-step plan and how to videos and action points every step of the way, to me, this is the best way to start your online business and there is no need to quit your regular job yet. You need to be very established before you stop your regular income coming in, we can work much more efficiently if we are not worrying about how the bills and are to be paid and how we are going to find the next penny!

It’s So Important To Start Your Business Now!

It’s important that you start your business now, stop making excuses and literally get going today there’s never been a better time to start an online business. One thing that you will have to do is to sacrifice your free time to learn, I had to do this and it definitely paid off big time. I’m not saying that you have to work seven days a week as I don’t believe this is an effective way to work, I have always said that I can achieve more in five or six days than I can in seven days. Our bodies need rest and we need to be refreshed to start our working week, sleep is another important factor, make sure you get enough sleep so you can be productive when you are working, it’s miserable trying to work with sleep deprivation.

I Really Want To See You Succeed

I really want to see you succeed and by taking action and by following my number one recommendation you can succeed online, I have done it so I’m sure that you can. I want to be able to help you and answer any questions that you may have.
