Amazing Grace Christian devotional.

Amazing Grace Christian devotional.

I think the song Amazing Grace has to be one of my favourite hymns, such amazing words and such truthful words that I believe every born-again Christian can relate to. This is a song that almost brings tears to my eyes as the words resonate in my soul, so powerful. I know what God has brought me out from and how I was and how I am now, such amazing grace.

I have added the youtube video of amazing Grace to this Christian devotional, take a listen to the amazing words.

I have a very good atheist friend who I have known for many years, although he doesn’t believe, we still talk and are very good friends and this is how it should be! My friend is a bit of a character and used to ring me up and if I didn’t answer the phone he would leave a Christian song on the answerphone. One of the songs that he left on my answerphone was amazing Grace, however, he did change the word slightly to these words!

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound

That saved a wretch like Roy

I once was lost, but now am found

Was blind but now Roy see’s!

Now my friend only put my name in place of the word “me” and yet it proves the power of God’s Amazing Grace! He took me to a place where I could see, but prior to this I was just so blind, I did not understand the Christian faith whatsoever, in fact, I gave Christians a hard time.

I find it absolutely amazing when the spirit of God comes upon you he turns blindness into light and it turns sorrow into joy, this is such a wonderful thing! I didn’t understand how the spirit of God could live inside us and at one point I had no interest in the Christian faith and actually gave Christians a hard time at every opportunity. But when that born-again spirit came upon me it just changed everything, every day I marvel at his amazing Grace.

I was blind

I was blind, I just could not see the truth, I laughed at other Christians who prayed and said things like, “God will make away” or “God can do the impossible” or “one day you will believe”, and people said this type of thing, in my mind I knew that I would never believe! But how wrong I was!

Something changed

In the mid-1990s, something started to change inside me, I thought there has to be more to life than just working hard and playing hard, surely we don’t just work hard play hard and then die, there has to be more! I started thinking that I need to find a church, it took me two years to pluck up the courage and to ask a friend if I could to church with them, but I eventually did it! I remember standing in church with people singing their hearts out, arms in the air and I just saw true freedom and a passion in these people, I really wanted some more of this! It felt so strange to be in church, I hoped that none of my drinking friends saw me in this place, it worried me, but at the same time, I knew I was doing something right!

True freedom came!

I went to that church for quite a few weeks before I said, “yes to Jesus”, something inside me told me that I was doing the right thing and although it felt strange, I kept going to that church. I was able to complete an Alpha course which was perfect for me as I had 1001 questions to ask and I have to say my questions were answered!

From that day when I said, “yes to Jesus”, I have never looked back, he is my hope and here is my all, I see his amazing Grace on a daily basis, knowing Jesus really does ring true freedom. Have you said yes to Jesus?

What is grace?

I believe that grace is one of the most important concepts of the Bible, Grace brings so much freedom. God showed me his amazing Grace before I was born again, he shows it to me on a daily basis., Scratch that

Grace is something that we don’t deserve, but God gives it.

Grace is being kind to people who are not kind to us.

Grace is given people the benefit of the doubt.

Grace is reaching down to people who don’t know God, this happened to me, big time.

Grace is loving someone who doesn’t deserve it.

Grace is getting what you don’t deserve.

Grace is speaking to others in a gracious way, not looking down on people.

Grace means so much and I could make the list go on for a long time, one thing is for sure, I thank God for his amazing Grace, it really is quite something. I think most Christians could talk forever about the grace of God.

Here are the words to Amazing Grace

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound,

That saved a wretch; like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

The Lord hath promised good to me,
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun.
